Hyderabad edition of TCS IT Wiz 2010 kicks off

Krishna Akhil & Rohan Naidu from FIIT JEE qualify for National Finals

Hyderabad, July 29, 2010: The TCS IT Wiz 2010 edition conducted and organized by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), received an overwhelming response in Hyderabad. It was a packed auditorium with more than 1000 students. IT Wiz – India’s largest tech quiz for schools held on Thursday at Bhartiya Vidya Bhawan.

After some intense quizzing and keen contest Krishna Akhil & Rohan Naidu from FIIT JEE walked away with the coveted winners trophy, along with a laptop each, closely followed by Syed Murtuza Hashmi & B. Asher from Little Flower High School – Abids as Runners-up who received their trophy along with Netbook.

Ms. Ratna Prabha Principal Secretary – IT & C Department, Government of Andhra Pradesh who was the chief guest on the occasion distributed the prizes along with Mr. V Rajanna, Vice President & Regional Head of TCS Hyderabad.

The 6 Regional finalists also received an array of prizes from TCS ranging from backpacks, MP3 players, headphones, t-shirts and water sippers. Special prize for the Winners included dinner with Mr. N. Chandrasekaran, CEO and MD of TCS.

The Regional rounds of TCS IT Wiz this year will be held in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Coimbatore, Pune, Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, Kochi, Lucknow, Delhi and Mumbai apart from Hyderabad. This nation wide event is expected to reach over 200,000 students.

TCS IT Wiz was open to school students studying from Class 8 – 12 (including PU students). The Regional rounds will be followed by a National Finals in December where the winning teams from the 12 Regional rounds will compete for TCS IT Wiz National Champion title.

The regional rounds of the quiz included:

Autonomic Computing – The world of IT has seen change at every crossroad. It is also perhaps the only industry where change is so fast that one has to keep pace with it. This round will explore the knowledge of the contestants on how abreast they are with the IT world around them and the changes that have taken place. This round also featured a question asked by N. Chandrasekaran, CEO & MD of TCS on a video link.

Cloud Computing – Powered by visuals this would cover the mainline industry, its people, the brands that change the world and technology that touches our lives and beyond.

@ TCS - Speed and thought process in sync is the hallmark of success in the modern world we live in. This round would focus on the ability of the teams to crack answers at a rapid pace from the world of TCS.

Parallel Computing – A round that would require lateral thinking and the ability to use the mind to the best of its ability. This round would sure test the young teams.

Grid Computing - A software powered round based on a grid, where teams would crack answers based on clues to move along the grid.

Subject: The Quiz focused on application of Information Technology across various sectors such as world of Internet and unique web sites, IT buzzwords and acronyms, IT Personalia – International, national and local, advertisements of IT and communication companies, Software products and brands, History of IT as well as the humorous side of IT. The Quiz will also cover areas where IT has made an impact – education, entertainment, books, multimedia, music, movies, internet, banking, advertising, sports, gaming, social networking, blogging, cell phones, etc. There will be an exclusive round on TCS (refer www.tcsitwiz.com & www.tcs.com)
